I have got nothing to post this week really. Yes I could’ve finished my Leia dress. Did I? No, in fact I made it worse.
I did get my belting and tried it on with the dress.
I’m still not happy with how lumpy the waist-seam looks EVEN THOUGH it’s hidden. I think I said in a previous post I’d been wishing I’d made the purple “skirt” as a separate piece, so in an act of recklessness yesterday, I started taking the dress apart intending to take the purple skirt off and make it a separate piece. I got as far as taking half the zipper out (bottom half) before I realize that having it as a separate piece was going to be just as tricky since it has to go under the front flap and I need to tack the front flap down. So I decided not to continue and just leave it as-is.
So now I have to reinstall the zipper that it took me 3 days to install neatly a couple of weeks ago. At least it’s only the bottom half, the upper half is still sewn in so hopefully the bottom falls back into place ok.
I did also finally draw up the shapes for the necklace and belt buckle. Chase is 3d modeling them. Went to Tandy Saturday looking for something for the belt, but the only things I liked cost more than I wanted to spend. So I got the cheap silver belting on amazon. I did get some leather paint at Tandy to see if I could add just a sheen of blue to the silver. I’ll test it on a scrap but I’m guessing it won’t work.
Despite not really having anything to post about today, I DO have the resulting photos from last week’s shoot.
After all the drama of shooting this costume, I do like the photos. Even though I realized once I got the photos back I HAD THE PANTS ON BACKWARDS.
The wig looks much better after removing some hair and recurling.
For comparison, here is the one photo from the December shoot I pulled out as a preview:
Too puffy, curls aren’t defined enough. New pics are way better.
Speaking of curls…
New Padme nightgown pics with the new wig…
So Padme’s curls are not nearly as defined as this wig. My plan is to use it for the Tatooine outfit later this year, and it’s definitely a brushed-out curly/wavy look, not these very tight spiral curls. So my plan is to test brushing it out. But before I did that I wanted to shoot it as-is in case I mess it up LOL
Friday I got to talk about Star Wars costumes with Cosplay Cafe and that was really fun. Afterwards I threw on Anne Boleyn to do a video I’ve had in my head for a while, since I already had makeup on.
Saturday was a bunch of errands, went to lunch at a new place with Nana, Kristie and Rach. Sunday I filmed some dressform videos, cleaned up my sewing room, cleaned up our bedroom, and made the Leia mistake I started out the post with.
Then off to see dad’s band play for St Patrick’s Day!
Went to dinner with my parents after that – tried a restaurant Chase and I had never been to and my parents hadn’t been to since the 70s LOL. Mom and I both got a meal that had alfredo sauce on it and when they set it down in front of me I could tell it smelled weird. Tried a bite and yep, weird. I tried the chicken and it was fine so I just decided to eat that. But then mom said hers tasted weird and burnt too. So she called the server over and told her, and they took them back – the server came back and confirmed there was definitely something wrong with the sauce, they were all back there trying it and grossed out LOL So glad it wasn’t just me and my nose being off. They remade everything and the new version was much better.
Anyway, will I finish Leia this week? I’m going to try to get the zipper back in tonight, and then all that was left on the dress was tacking down that front skirt panel and cleaning it up. I can go ahead and trim and put a closure on the belt too. All of that I could do in one night if I make myself.
This weekend is MEGA FABRIC SHOPPING TRIP! Looking for fabric for 4 potential costumes. Oh and it’s also Chase’s birthday LOL Looking forward to it!!
